Our Mission

Our Mission

To facilitate training, education and dialogue for animal welfare by bringing together veterinarians, animal scientists, emergency first responders and other stakeholders to improve animal wellbeing.

Our Goals

  • To provide a neutral platform for animal welfare issues to be identified and discussed, and for science-based and ethical solutions to be explored.
  • To positively impact animal health and welfare by expanding educational opportunities in the areas of research and training, including support leading to board certification in the American College of Animal Welfare (ACAW).
  • To encourage faculty to engage in collaborative animal welfare research and outreach activities.
  • To develop and disseminate globally available curricula and trainings in animal welfare, emergency rescue and disaster management protocols to educate students, veterinarians, first responders, government agency representatives, and community members.

The International Animal Welfare Training Institute (IAWTI)* follows the mission of the University of California by addressing animal welfare via educational support/training, research and service.  The institute engages faculty from the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, the UC Davis Animal Science department, and other professionals with a broad range of expertise to identify gaps in the knowledge and science of animal welfare.
